Inking the design

Draw or transfer your design unto the canvas if you have lost the original drawing.

The method used to ink the design is to dip the pen into the sepia ink (full strength ink) and retrace the drawing. Spray the ink with a very fine mist of water as you go along to diffuse the ink and create interesting patterns. Use varying amounts of water and thickness of ink lines to create an interesting pattern with some of the lines getting lost and blurred.

Dry your canvas well before starting the next step.

Using your Dagger brush apply washes of colour on to the frangipanis. Pick up only small amounts of ink and still use a fine spray of water every now and then. The flowers are coloured with touches of Magenta, Deep Red, White and Yellow Deep. The centres are darkened with touches of Burnt Sienna.

The leaves are washed in with a mix of Blue and Yellow Deep. For the sake of interest in your piece slightly change the quantities of each colour used in the mixes. Allow some of the leaves to blend into the background by adding touches of Magenta, Blue and White.
